Eddie Kennison credits the high standards of English teacher Jacquelyn Stevens for taking him out of his comfort zone and into a life of success. “It didn't take us long to realize that if we didn't want to do an assignment over and over, we'd better just do it right the first time,” the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver recalls. “I began to focus my attention on becoming the best I could be at everything."
"I love what I do," enthuses Mrs. Stevens. "When I raise the bar, my students reach up and grab it.” Behind every famous person is a fabulous teacher.

Importance of High-Quality Education and Teachers in Society

Teachers sometimes feel marginalized, particularly in comparison to their comparably educated peers who out-earn them in corporate jobs, but it is important to remember that, as educators, teachers represent a cornerstone of our society. The slogan of TeachersCount’s public awareness campaign is, “Behind every famous person is a fabulous teacher,” and, indeed, this could be expanded to say, “Behind every successful person are many successful teachers.” It is essentially common knowledge that access to a good education correlates strongly with a person’s chances of success, and this fact alone should make teachers feel front-and-center in the collective effort to ensure a bright future for our society.
