"What a great profession this is!" says NFL Teacher of the Year Charlotte Gagliardi. Twelve-time Pro Bowl participant Will Shields, an offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs and a former student of hers, is glad she thinks so.

"I'm a member of the NFL today because of God-given talents," says Will. "However, I'm a father today and a husband today and the best person I can be today because of Ms. G."

Making a Difference

"Making a Difference" was the column that TeachersCount authored in Scholastic's Instructor magazine from 2006 untiul 2007. Based on the theme, "Behind every incredible kid is an inspiring teacher," each column highlights a student or group of students who have done great things and the teacher or teachers who inspired them. Each teacher who is honored in "Making a Difference" receives a gift certificate to Scholastic and a $100 gift card to OfficeMax.
